A Kirsten’s Corner Signature piece, we set this Victorian era family crest intaglio into a 14k gold split band ring. The smoky topaz gemstone is faceted along the backside so that when looked at from the top, it sparkles from within. The intaglio carved into the stone is a shield held within a knight’s helmet. The shield has the image of a lion and above the helmet is an elegant scrolling foliate topped with a star. The family crest is unidentified but is rich with heraldic symbolism.Â
We set the intaglio in a ring with elongated prongs that allow you to see all sides of the stone. The split band gives the ring a great openness and the intaglio can be seen from below, illuminated through the topaz. Ideal as a cocktail ring, the intaglio sits high above the finger, giving this ring a regal quality.Â
The face of the topaz measures 18 x 25 mm. The ring sits approximately 7/16” above the finger. The piece weighs 9.27 grams.Â
